Buckhead Investments a Lead Sponsor of Global Warming Symposium

City leaders, students and teachers participate in a national effort to raise awareness about climate change.

HOUSTON, TX – Buckhead Investment Partners, Inc., joined with St. Catherine’s Montessori in hosting, Focus the Nation, January 31, 2008.  Focus the Nation was an educational initiative, coordinating teams of faculty and students at colleges, universities and K-12 schools across the United States.

Local leaders, Bill White, Ellen Cohen, Bob Kelley, Cindy Siegel, Anne Clutterbuck, Peter Brown, Sue Lovell, Melissa Noriega and Ronald Green joined students, faculty and guests at St. Catherine’s Montessori on January 31st, as they hosted “Focus the Nation.”  Buckhead Investment Partners served as a lead sponsor of this important and timely event.

St. Catherine’s is one of two Houston K-12 schools that participated in the nation-wide Focus the Nation event. Focus the Nation was an educational initiative, coordinating teams of faculty and students at colleges, universities and K-12 schools across the United States, with the purpose of increasing awareness of global warming issues and engaging leaders in a dialogue about how to act locally. 

In addition to guest speakers and presentations, St. Catherine’s Adolescent Community students performed an original music production complete with puppet show for younger guests.  Entrance to the event was free, and lunch consisting of locally grown foods, was offered.  Other event sponsors included Durotech and GreenBank.

Founded in 1966, St. Catherine’s Montessori is located in SW Houston, and serves 235 students, ages 14 mos. to 15 years.  St. Catherine’s recently received state-wide recognition as Texas’ first LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Certified  K-12 school.
